CALIFORNIA COAST JANUARY 2017 - 4

FRIDAY, 6 JANUARY

This morning we were delayed in getting off so we could not make it to Drake’s Beach in time for sunrise. As we drove the Pt. Reyes –Petaluma Road, Mark kept an eye out on the sky. He found a turn off that took us to a part of Nicasio Reservoir and rolling farm land to capture the fast approaching  sunrise and morning light. We rapidly set  up off the road for sunrise.

Then we photographed the fog rolling around the reservoir as well as the frost covered plants.

We then returned to the Motel in Petaluma for breakfast and packing up our gear for our move to Monterey. The Quality Inn did a very good job with their Breakfast Bar including the fixings for  breakfast burrito.

On the way to Monterey we again stopped at the Marin Headlands for those who had not been there before. It was mid-day so the light was not optimal. Once over the Golden Gate Bridge we stopped at Sports Basement so members of the group could return rented and/or bought items in preparation for the aborted trip  to Yosemite. It was also in San Francisco that my roommate, Patricia, left the trip to return home.
Once we had checked into our Motel, we were off to Pacific Grove and the coastline below Asilomar.

STORM EVENING
The weather was doing it’s thing, and so it was overcast and grey most of the afternoon. We focused on shooting small images of the surf using slow shutter speeds.

It was good to be out at the coast, and it was a challenge to find subject matter.
